• I can no longer edit my Text Widgets. I’ve tried deactivating all plugins, different browsers, trying in customizer… nothing works. The box to type in no longer appears.

Any ideas? Anyone? Bueller?… Bueller?… Thanks!

  • A screenshot would help better understand the issue.

Did you add the text widget to the sidebar?

Yes, I added them to sidebar. Active and inactive widgets cannot be edited.

I’d upload a screenshot but I do not see anywhere here that will allow me to do so.

Before in the text widgets, there was a box where you could add text, code for banner ads…

Now that box is no longer there. It only has the space to choose which side bar and position

I am having the same problems. In the AVAILABLE WIDGET Edit section there use to be a black triangle to click that dropped down to show a box with the current text where you could also edit that text. Now, I only have an EDIT click that only allows you to change the location of the widget – not the text. Very Strange. I used the Customize section to change the text.

I use the Weaver Extreme Plus Template.

If you disable your plugins, does the issue persist?

If you can edit after disabling, enable them one by one and track down the troubled individual.

    If not, post back here.

I disabled each widget individually – still did not change. I also renamed the plugin folder so none worked and still did not change. I even installed a new template and the widgets text was not able to be edited.

Widget not able to edit text

If you click edit, it only lets you change the position of the widget – you can’t edit the text. Very strange. Pat

I found out what is wrong. UNDER SCREEN OPTIONS AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE – click – Enable accessibility mode. I don’t know how mine got change, but that allowed me to change the text of widgets as normal. There is always something new to give you problems. LOL Thank You to everyone that read and helped.

Enabling accessibility mode is a feature in WordPress to allow easier manipulation of widgets by users in the admin, it doesn’t mean you are enabling edits on the widget page:

You can test out a default theme, turn the accessibility mode back off (the default setting) and see if you are able to edit your widgets.

Thank You. Everything is now working on my widget page since I changed the accessibility mode. I have a lot of widgets and need access to the text in them. Everything is working now. I really like WP now that I have learned a lot about it. Also love the Weaver xtreme theme.

Thanks again for reading and replying to my post.
