After a recent update we’ve lost any ability to edit slider content. Attempting to edit the block, blanks out any and all content and the slider needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

In most cases, hitting “Update” on the post / page with Gutenslider after installing the 5.x update should migrate all sliders.

In some cases a slider rebuild must be made after upgrading to Gutenslider 5.x but only if you did not use the most recent 4.x version before. A workaround would be:

Install Gutenslider 4.5.2 and update all posts / pages with a slider, and then update to the latest 5.x release. That should migrate all sliders.

I’m not totally sure this addresses our issue, but I will refer the info to our web dev.

The slider exists and operated (on the front end) as expected, but attempting to add or remove a slide on the back end gives unexpected behaviour. Mainly, blanking out the entire slider and all content.

e.g. You have a slider with for example, 5 images each with text overlays, and links to pages from the slider. You attempt to add 1 more slide, previously you were brought to a “summary” pop up that showed all selected images, confirming would bring you back to the slider with all content kept as it was prior to edit with this additional image in place, in the order selected in the confirmation pop up. Now, selecting a new image removes ALL content from a slider, all images/slides are gone and any related information (text overlays, links etc).

I am happy to try the method suggested if you still think that will address the issue I have elaborated on above. Our web dev may know, but just in case, where do I get version 4.5.2?

Can you please send (or ask your webdev to send) a mail with browser console output / errors to [email protected]. What you describe sounds not standard behavior. Which Gutenslider version are you currently using?

@eedee I have identified a problem in the workflow of editing a slider block.

When an end-user clicks on the “Edit Slides” they are immediately taken to a standard-looking WordPress Media Library. However, it is not at all obvious that all the existing slides are already selected, and the user must CTRL or CMD ? before clicking anything, or they will erase the existing selection. This is a major burden to any user will more than a few images already loaded in their site.

The expect behavior is that when a user clicks “Edit Slides”, any dialog that appears will not erase the existing slides without adequate warning.

There are no browser console errors when perform this action, this appears to be a bug in the process flow itself not an unexpected code problem.

@wmithnyc thanks for reporting. we will look into it and see what we can do to make it more clear to users.

closing as will not fix soon for the moment. it is incredibly hard to change the media library popup and we will adress it as soon as WordPress allows library react components.
