  • Do you have a backup of your site?
    Have you attempted recovery?
Could you please post a copy of the error here (it can help others too)?

While I do recommend getting to the root of the problem, the Classic Editor may provide a temporary fix:

Yes I do have a backup and did go back to previous WordPress version. That works just fine. I did post the error message in the message above. I get this message on each page when I go into edit the page. It is just the error message on a white screen

Hi there. I am sorry to hear about your experience with the upgrade.

Some things you can try to find the problem. Upgrade all your plugins as well? If you have done this already and the problem persists, then I would recommend disabling each plugin one by one and testing in between if you are able to edit or not as this could be a conflict from an old plugin with the current upgraded version of WordPress. Especially if you have a plugin running that assists you in editing pages or posts.

I did disable all plugins and that did not resolve the issue.

Check to see if an updated version of your theme is available. I’ve been seeing reports of purchased themes being incompatible and needing updates to fix them.

You can then test the theme, either if there is an update for your current theme as Samuel has stated or try just switch to another “default” theme like twenty nineteen or one of the others that come with the WordPress installation for a few seconds, activate and test to see if you can edit then. You can just switch back to your theme after the test. If the theme is indeed the issue, you can make contact with the theme creators for a solution.

i have exactly the same problem. I can’t edit pages. I have done everything you propose

Two things you can try I know of. Make sure you have a new version of php running with your wordpress, you can do this in your hosting cpanel or your hoster can do this for you. Also it could be a browser issue still remembering old files in the cache.

Then flush browser cache and refresh your page a few times – https://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/Hard_Refresh

Let me know if this helped?

My problem has been solved. Changing php version from 7.2 to 7.3 and refreshing. Thank you all

    Awesome @pepelu1962 . Has this helped any of you @hassanbaz @whitebearheating ?

Hi, I have a similar problem when I add any information to my site I get this message.
Updating failed. You are probably offline.

What am I doing wrong? I have already tried to rest the installation?

@tony-lane . There could be a number of things that cause that error. Here is a link to help you trouble shoot? https://wpmantis.com/wordpress-editor-updating-failed-solved/

Let me know if this helped?

I have switched to version 5.4.2 and I have updated php to version 7.0. The problem is that the edit pages of articles no longer appear, i.e. when I want to edit an article, a blank page appears. I can no longer write or edit anything. What to do? Please, help me.

I have the same issue. You can work round this by installing a plugin called Disable Gutenberg. Then it works. I am not happy that we have to do that though as I thought that was core to wordpress now.
