Can’t edit Navigation in site editor

    I have not been editing my site for a bit, however I do all upgrades weekly, so he site is always up to date.

    I recently wanted to add a menu item to the navigation and I find I can not.. Navigation has a lock shown. Investigation said to click on three dots… there are no three dots.

    Also, after clicking on Navigation it shows all the menu items on the right of the screen, but there is no plus + sign after the list. How can I add new menu items.

    When editing I go to get the blocks and there are none, only a search box.

    I know all this is probably a simple issue if I could turn off the lock, but how there are no three dots to edit the block.

    I am sorry for the lack of better terminology…. not a programmer.

    Is there some way I can show screen shots?

    Hi @craigthill – thanks for those screenshots.

    I suspect the fact that block is locked is the reason you can’t edit/add more items. Luckily it’s possible to unlock the block for editing.

    In the list view – can you please click the three dots next to the Navigation block item? You’ll see an option to unlock it .

    Thank you for your suggestion, but would you please look at the images I sent again, please. Note the whole point of this post is there is NO “three dots”, therefore I can not unlock.

    Hey @craigthill ! Did you create this navigation menu from scratch, or was this imported from a previously used theme? Also, can you try creating a new navigation menu and see if you’re able to edit that? You can do this by going to Appearance > Edit, and then to Patterns > Template parts > Header, and then selecting the header from the preview area.

    Hi WordPress, I am having the same problem here. Using twenty twenty four and menu items and I cannot add new menu items via Appearance > Edit, and then to Patterns > Template parts > Header. It shows the existing menu items, but when you click on the three dots next to any menu item, there is no selection option for add new. Neither is the navigation item locked. This seems to have occurred after your recent updates over the last few months since you introduced the preview mode of each template page. Also, the search window for finding new blocks or to add new menu items, etc is empty. I also tried to setup a new template header as a test and it opens with an empty blocks editor, with no way to add new menu items in it. How can we resolve this?
