• Hello NG Gallery Support,

    We’ve been using NextGen Gallery for most of our site’s gallery images. As I checked the source html to some of our pages/posts, it has meta data like “title” and “description”. However the “alt=” tag or the image alternative text always shows “image01” or in which case can also be viewed in HTML form as “alt=image01”

    A sample image of what I’m referring at:
    https://screencast.com/t/pTgFjsch6u

    The same alt=”image01″ happens to all our pages/posts that has gallery in it. In seo perspective we value “alternative text” very much. In regards, I would like to ask for possible solutions as to how we can update the “alternative text” for each images within our gallery.

    By the way I’ve seen in the forums, a lot of people are having the same issue. Please consider this high priority if possible.

    Looking forward on your response.
    Thank You!

    Hi Cais,

    I appreciate your response.
    Is there any way, for free users to get errors like these fixed? Or can this only be fixed if they are part of the pro subscription?

    Looking forward for you re response.

    @microbrandseo – We review and address all concerns and issue although we do tend to focus our resources on those issues that affect the largest amount of users first.

    You are more than welcome to review the code yourself and submit a patch if you want, we are also very open to community involvement and input as well.

    Thanks!

    Hello Cais,

    Again, thank you for your response.

    No, I can’t review the codes, as I am no developer of a plugin. However, I can point out errors and what areas might need some fixes.

    With regards to this, please help us let your developers know that we need to have a field in which we can update image alt text for images uploaded within NextGen Gallery.

    Please refer on the link, on my first forum post.
    https://screencast.com/t/pTgFjsch6u

    All images uploaded via NextGen Gallery has an alt text of “image01”.
    or code as alt=”image01″ and no way to change it in easier way.

    Would it be possible to have this this error fixed on the next update release? Hopefully it is possible.

    Let us know please. Thanks.

    @microbrandseo – The alt tag, by default, is the same as the title tag in NextGEN Gallery … this is not something NextGEN Gallery would be over-riding unless you are changing the details of the image yourself (which I do not suspect is the case based on our description).

    I would suggest checking for conflicts with other active plugins as well as your current theme to see if whatever is creating the rolloveritem might also be causing this alt tag text to be written as a possible example of a conflict.

    Thanks!

    Hello Cais,

    <div id="ngg-image-3" class="ngg-gallery-slideshow-image" >
    		<img data-image-id='547'
    		     title="Big male lion lying in dense grassland - Kruger National Park - South Africa"
    		    <strong> alt="Lion in grassland"</strong>
    		     src="https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/wp-content/gallery/new-animals/Animals_025.JPG"
    		     width="800"
    		     height="533"/>
    		</div>

    Looks like alt=”texthere” has been updated.
    but not the same as the title and it doesn’t have any description.

    @microbrandseo – Looking specifically at your site you are using a custom template and an older version of NextGEN Gallery. I would recommend updating to the current version (we no longer offer support for older versions) and review the custom / customized template you are using for your display (we do not support custom template issues at this time but we do support our code’s functionality if it exist in the custom template).

    Thanks!

    Hello Cais,

    We have NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati version Version 4.0.61.
    However, yes, we do have a custom template.

    Do you think it is the reason that causes the conflict?

    Thanks

    @microbrandseo – The current version of NextGEN Gallery is 2.1.15

    You appear to be running a version that was released over 1-1/2 years ago … and yes, a custom template can cause issues with the display/SEO/etc.

    Hello Cais,

    I appreciate all your response.

    We have a big site which is using the older version at the moment “as you said 1-1/2 y o”, I was wondering..

    Will it cause any error to our current nextgen gallery if we update to the latest?

    Also we can’t see any update in the plugins area, it says we have the latest NG Gallery version.

    Let me know Please. Thanks

    @microbrandseo – I cannot say what will happen on your specific site, nor why there is no update showing as being available unless the modifications that have been made to your site also include turning off update notices.

    I would recommend a fully verified complete back of your site (including the database) then update all active plugins and your current theme as needed. Also double-check that you are using the latest WordPress stable version as well.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
