• Hi

Before I start, I’ll say that any suggestions will need to be really clear as I’m really useless when it comes to things like this.

I’m running WordPress 4.2.3 using the Chicago theme. I’ve spent the last hours trying to upload a .jpg, using troubleshooting guides etc and no luck. I’ve even tried uploading a file that is already on my site, but that won’t upload either. The error message I’m getting is:

The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2015/07.

I’ve changed the permissions in the folder called wp-content to 777, but it didn’t help.

I really need to get this picture (and a couple of others) up asap, so any help is hugely appreciated.

I’m not sure it will help, but if you need to view, my website is https://www.hayleybarrett.net

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hi,

Try to assign permissions 777 touploads folder. Once you are able to upload, change the permissions to 755.If this does not fix, rename the current uploads folder and create new one with permissions 777 and move all the files to this folder. Once you are able to upload the images, set permissions back to 755.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks. I tried that but it hasn’t really helped. I’m no longer getting the error message and the picture is downloading, but all I see in my media library is a grey box with an error picture in it – this is also what shows if I try to put it onto my page. If I click on edit (in the media library), I can see my image. I think I’m getting closer but no idea what to do now!

    Hi,

    Have you tried?

Uncheck the box that says “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders” in -> Settings –>Media.

Make sure that anti-hotlinking isn’t enabled at your web hosting account. If it is, try disabling it.

If this does not fix your issue, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Thanks,

I too was getting the error “The uploaded file could not be moved to…”.
The reason was because the public_html folder had run out of disk space. Once I deleted an older site backup file to free up space, the upload worked perfectly.
I had also been trying to update some plugins and they would just keep saying ‘Updating’ and never finish. Once I freed up disk space, they updated perfectly.

Thanks for the responses. When I unchecked the box saying “organize uploads into month/year…” it started letting me see new downloaded files. Also my provided looked at it and said there was some sort of problem with the 07 folder that the files were saving into and they fixed it, so it’s all good and working properly again.

    Thanks again for the help!

    Hi

I am new to WP and am uploading images to my website. I have added several images in the past, however, I’m trying to add some new ones today and it simply won’t let me. I get an Error message saying ‘http error’. The images I’m trying to upload are saved onto my own laptop from the internet.

I have deleted some images I have, just in case I have run out of space, to no avail. Can anybody please help….

    Thank you.
