I have turned OFF “Let visitors subscribe to new posts and comments via email” in Jetpack settings. But “Notify me of new posts by email” is still there. How to disable it? Thanks for any ideas.

    Hi there,

This is a known issue with the Jetpack Comments module, and is being investigated in https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/12904

I have been able to confirm that, even though that option appears, clicking on it doesn’t actually subscribe anyone to your site, so the subscriptions are properly disabled. It’s just the checkbox that is being added to the comment form.

For now, the only way to not have that show is to disable the Jetpack comments module as well, i.e. use WordPress’s built-in comments. That means visitors won’t be able to on-click sign in to comment using a WordPress.com or social media account, but will need to fill out their name, email and site URL manually each time.

Thank you. I can confirm all is as you have described:

    • Yes clicking the checkbox in this case did not subscribe the user (a double annoyance!)
    • Turning off all Jetpack comments features reverted to the WordPress default so it’s more or less resolved for now.

Shall I look for a fix in next Jetpack update? (This is Jetpack 8.8.2).

Jetpack 8.9 actually came out this week, so make sure to update that if you haven’t already.

I’m not able to say if it will be fixed in the next version, though. Best is to subscribe to that GitHub issue I linked to above if you want to keep updated on this.
