can't delete or install any plugin any themes!

my server is running nginx,proftpd (non standard prot),php-fpm. there’s no disable functions in php.ini.
right now whatever i install or delete plugins or themes, after fill in ftp connect infomation, wait a long time, it drops me a “Gateway 504 time out” error. but i post a new entry or comment, it works fine.
please help me.
