• I have uploaded a whole bunch of different media to my wordpress site. I now have a whole bunch of media files (image, pdf) that I can’t delete. I go to Media Library and try to Permanently Delete the files I don’t want. I keep getting the following error:

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/post.php on this server.

I can’t delete a single file through the dashboard. Even when I access my files through a FTP client and delete them they are still there!

    Any advice?

    Cheers,
    Andrew

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks. I only had one plugin that was active and I deactivated it. I also tried to delete some of the unused plugins and I got the same error. Couldn’t delete any.

I followed the resetting the plugins folder instructions – didn’t help.

Next thing to check is the theme I guess. I am using “platform” (not the Pro) along with a “platform” child theme.

Is there a safe way to switch to Twenty Eleven without losing all my formatting for my current child theme?

Yes – just switch to Twenty Eleven.

Thanks again. I switched and it didn’t help. Hmmm…

Have you tried repairing your database?

    Sorry I’m a bit of a nOOb…how do I do that?

You might need to ask your hosts for assistance with this. You need access to a database management tool like Phpmyadmin.
