Can’t delete Maxmind license key

I replicated the scenario on my personal site, however, I was unable to reproduce the issue on my end. After deleting the license keys and clicking Save Changes, the input field was left blank.

Can you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled and see if this works?

If so, then this kind of problem is usually caused by your theme or a third-party plugin present on your site. We can run a conflict test to verify this. I’d recommend cloning your site to a staging environment and performing the tests described on this guide without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.

If this was caused by a third-party plugin present on your site, it would be best to reach out to the developers for further assistance here.

If this did not resolve the issue, please share your System Status Report, that will help us further troubleshoot.

You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

If you could also provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

Thanks for coming back to me and for your suggestions. I had created a staging site already because I have been trying to trouble shoot a problem that I’m experiencing at checkout. Essentially the woocommerce notification/alert messages customers should be getting when they fail to fill in all the mandatory fields is incorrect. It shows a standard message unrelated to the field they have missed. When I created the staging site the problem disappears, this is before I’ve made any changes to the staging site or deactivated plugins. Upon searching for the difference between the staging and live, the only discrepancy I can find is the live site has a MaxMind license key entered and the staging doesn’t. I never created an account on Maxmind, I contacted Maxmind to ask them if perhaps a developer might have created one for me and they can’t find an account attached to my website. Now I can’t seem to delete the license key on the live site at all. I made a video to explain it better which you can view here:

Do you perhaps know what could be causing the problem at checkout?

Thank you for your reply. As mentioned above, the staging site doesn’t have the key (I never deleted it, it just never appeared in the staging site). It’s only on the live website (this I can’t delete). So I can’t test the issue on the staging site as it doesn’t have the key, and the problem mentioned. This is what’s weird about the situation and what makes me think it’s Maxmind, as the live site has a key I can’t delete (and there’s a problem at checkout) and the staging doesn’t have a key (and there’s NO problem at checkout). So I was wondering if I can safely delete the data file. Please advise? Thank you.

Just an update, I did a test on my live site by changing the theme to a default theme and I still can’t delete the key. It also keeps asking me if I want to “leave the page” when I update the page as if I’ve made changes on that page when I haven’t. There’s clearly a bug on the Maxmind integration page on my website. Please can you advise what I can try next? Thank you

I took a deeper look and a user reported in this comment the problem was caused by their host’s firewall.

Can you please ask your host to turn off any security and caching solutions temporarily?

You can try deleting the MaxMind key too after doing so.

Also, is the problem present when checking out with cards or just PayPal?

Thanks for your response. I have disabled security and caching services and I still unfortunately cannot delete the key (I use Cloudways so I have a fair amount of control over the server settings etc). Each time I am on the page it keeps asking to save changes even though I’ve done nothing, it’s like the key was pre-inputted and now it’s asking to save. When I save, it doesn’t recognise the save, it just keeps asking if I’m sure I want to leave the page before saving.

Regarding the checkout message problem, I only use the Paypal plugin (due to my country’s restrictions), so the options are Paypal or debit/credit card, but both are through paypal gateway. And it happens when you choose either option.

It’s weird this glitch/backend woocommerce problem didn’t replicate or copy over with the staging site. Is there anything else you can think of that I can try please? Thank you!

Before you follow the next steps, we recommend having sufficient backups. If you aren’t familiar with editing database tables, we recommend you not follow the instructions below and ask someone familiar with editing them to help you further.

Are you able to access the database of your store using PhpMyAdmin or via plugin and look for the option name woocommerce_maxmind_geolocation_settings in the wp_options table? You will see the max-mind license key as the value for this option.

Once you verify the license matches to your license, please delete only this row. Deleting this row show empty the license key from your WooCommerce store.
