Upgraded to 5.1 today and now cannot edit or create posts or pages. Have tried everything I can find suggested and nothing works. When I go to preview, the post is there but editing is not possible. I have the classic editor installed already from the last update so that is not the issue. Any suggestions? The webpage works fine as is just no updating possible.
    Thanks

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Nineteen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

I did the above with no results. Disabling all plugins and switching to Twenty Nineteen theme did not fix anything, I am unable to update my site. Is there a way to go back to Word Press 5.0? I installed Health Check and nothing is showing as wrong.
    Thanks

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

I am not very savvy on doing stuff like this. If I delete everything from my hosting server, how do I download wordpress again? Can you give me a little more detailed help?
    Thanks

My reply has a link to where you download WordPress.

If you have any questions on a specific step there, please let us know.

OK, I have spent the last 2 days sorting out how to upload all the 5.1 files to my server, deleted everything I was supposed to and copied over all the new files and my website still exists but I still cannot make any changes. I cannot edit or create pages or posts still. I don’t know what to do now or how to get help.

Ok, first please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Thankyou!!!!! My browser was up to date so I disabled all my Chrome extensions and now I can make changes to my website. This has never happened before. I will play around and see which extension was causing the problem. Appreciate your help tremendously ??

One more quick question, in the top right of my website dashboard pages beside the screen options button there are sayings. Currently showing is “You’re lookin swell, Dolly” Is this part of 5.1 or do I have a problem?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

That’s the Hello Dolly plugin, which you can deactivate in the Plugins section of your site’s Dashboard.

OK, I had access to my website for a few hours and now I can sign in to my dashboard but every time I try to leave the dashboard I get the below error. Is this something else in WordPress I need to fix?
    Thanks
