• Hi,

Here’s the thing: I can’t add categories. When I go to Manage>Categories>Add New and fill out the little form, then click “Add category” nothing happens. The form clears and that’s that. It is impossible for me to actually add new categories.

  • Same problem here. I can’t create categories. I tried different themes which support version 2.3

I think this is a bug and it may be rectified in coming 2.3.1 release!

I’m not having that issue. Can you add categories whilst writing a post? Is it just in the Manage > Categories > Add New?

I can’t add a new Category from both the Manage > Categories > Add New screen and the Add Category box to the right of the Add Post on the Write > Post page

I have spent hours trying to resolve this. Upgrade to 2.3.1 was no help. My only option is to go directly into SQL — which is very time consuming. I suspect a browser problem, but whether its FireFox 2.0 or IE 7 same problem. Haven’t tried Opera. (And doubt that I will.) Hope this gets fixed soon.

OK, I finally isolated the problem to a JavaScript browser problem that exists in both of my configurations for IE7 and FireFox 2.0.0.8 operating under Windows Home Premium Vista. Other posted solutions involving the htaccess file, and various plugins did not resolve the issue

I can create categories to my hearts content by deactivating JS. In FireFox, I went Tools > Options > Content and unchecked “Enable JavaScript.”

    Hope this helps.

I am having the same problems. The older version worked fine. After upgrade I can not add delete or edit categories. I get an error message permissions for wp-adim.ajax. the permissions are good. If I change the url and add the www. I don’t get an error message and it appears that I have added, but alas, no new category, deletion or changes. I have change to compatible program, I have tried the overload plugin, (that works even though it says it can’t find database) but only to add.
Could someone come up with and answer to a patch to fix this problem… I am going crazy.

followed “condi4prez”‘s suggestion and now I can also add categories.

Took some effort to find this solution and now I forgot why I wanted to add a category. :>)

regarding my earlier post about being able to add a category after “disabling java script” in the browser: now that I can add a category a post to this category also is placed in the default category even though this new category is not defined as having a “parent”

condi4prez and rblout, i used your method of disable the java script and try to create a category but nothing happen when i add category. The category did not create.

I believe that disabling java script is not a solution. I have since “checked” “Enable java script”. I can add categories now but posts to a new category posts to it AND to the default category. Not sure why. Looking into it.

This drove me mad last night, here’s the way I fixed it, deactivated all the Plugins, Logged into the database using Navicat, you can use PHP admin, view the oprions table, on line 59 is the DB version, change this to a previous version (5183) then run the wordpress upgrade url (https://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php) ang guess what, all my categories came back, I can add, edit, and delete. I also installed the stickey category plug in and that works.Good luck

I also am unable to create categories. i have wordpress v 2.3 and have the folloiwing other problems as well. My website is https://www.planningwithkids.com :

-Contact form doens’t work. It works nicely from the input end, but I don’t receive the emails.
-When I use the <!–more–> tag to split the post it does not work on the blog. The whole entry is listed, but when I receive the feedburner email it has split the post.
-Neither will it display the Share This plug in on the post, but it does in feedburner.
-I could not upload files, but the upload plug in has worked around this problem
-I have tried to change how the date posted is displayed, but cannot get it to bring up the day as well as the date.
-When it brings up the posts in Archives, they have no date on them

I am very new to wordpress and have very little knowledge of code, but was wondering if there is a link between all these problems?

Any help on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I am not using the visual text editor.
