I’ll start off by saying I found a solution, and that was to connect to Jetpack using Safari, which used to be my primary browser.

The purpose of this post is to try figure out what I missed.

For the most part, Chrome is working flawlessly for my entire web experience, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what is preventing me from connecting to Jetpack with Chrome.

While Safari opens worpress.com in the same tab and does not ask for 2FA and then redirects back to my site with no problems, even though I am logged into wp.com with Chrome, it opens a pop-up which asks me to sign in to wp.com, which I do together with 2FA on the WP app. But, after I tap ‘approve’ on the WP app, nothing happens. At least the pop-up goes away and I’m still on the ‘Setup Jetpack’ page on my site.

I first discovered this problem a few weeks ago when I restored my site from an UpDraft backup. This Jetpack/Chrome problem led me to think there was a problem with UpDraft, only there wasn’t. I ended up looking for the problem in the wrong place. No harm done, but what I think I learned is there seems to be no single one size fits all browser.

Maybe the moral of the story is if you have a problem, try other another browser first (I have 3) unless this is a problem with Jetpack/Chrome that needs to be fixed.

Hm, the first thing I’d check is if it works with all extensions deactivated.

It wouldn’t be the first time an overzealous ad/tracker blocked thought that the connection process was “cross-site tracking.” I mean, _technically_ it is, but contextually it’s not a bad thing in this case.

I would have expected overzealous track blocking from the likes of Safari and Firefox, but not Google/Chrome, of all browsers.

Anyhow, on the off chance I need to reconnect Jetpack again I’ll just do it with Safari. I’ve always got a few browsers laying around.
