• Firstly, I’m a newbie so be gentle….

    Helping my wife get her website up. We’re using NetworkSolutions as our hosting solution and have ‘installed’ WP 3.5 on the site. I’ve run through the configuration script dozens of times but I continually get a ‘DB connection’ error. I’ve confirmed:
    – db Name, db user name, db user password
    – that mySQL db is up and running; contains the user/ID that I’ve inserted in the config file;
    – that Network solutions has confirmed that the website is up/working

    So… any suggestions? Thx

  • Have you verified your database details as entered in the wp-config.php file with your hosts?

    -Also double check if they (hosting provider) have any other problem at their end, or they made any changes to your account, or if there are any limitations/restrictions, if the hosting package is set to Windows and not Linux, etc.
    – double check your wp-config.php file settings for the database name, database username and database password. This is where most errors occur.
    – Then check that you don’t need to change the database host from “localhost” to something else. You can get that info from your hosting provider.

    Did you verify your DB_HOST value for NetworkSolutions – please check the list of possible guesses on the Editing_wp-config.php page which has the following entry:

    NetworkSolutions mysqlv5

    esmi – I have verified it myself but how would I ask the hosting company to do that? Email/Call them to ask? Would they provide an individual response like that?

    t-p – Where in the PHP admin or MYSql admin would I check that its Win vs Linux? In MySQL admin screen, it indicates ‘localhost’. Is that good enough?

    Thx for ur help.

    contact your hosting provider’s support.

    Email them with the details that you have and ask for verification. They should provide you with an individual response. This is part of what you’re paying them for.

    it indicates ‘localhost’. Is that good enough?

    It varies tremendously from host to host, so only your hosts can answer this question.
