• I am trying to set up a second wp database. I have two domain names, both run through the same provider, so one is subdirectory of my first. I have tried to copy the wp folders and files to my subdirectory (2nd domain) after installing it on my first. I have tried using both SmartFTP and my provider’s control panel to copy the files, but neither works. In fact, in attempting to do this yesterday, I wiped out my first database (or certain links that I can’t figure out) and had to build it again from scratch. So, my first blog works again, but I still cannot create a second.

    Any ideas? Thanks!
    Glenn

  • You use FTP to upload the WordPress files. But the database is not something you ‘upload’. Typically, you create the database and database user and give the database user the privileges to that database, then the WordPress install program will create your database tables and put data into those tables. You edit the wp-config.php to tell WordPress the database name, user, password, host, and $table_prefix.
