• I’ve tried numerous times to change the URIs on the Options page, is it? I “Update,” then try to view the site and I get an error message. I’ve had a two-week long nightmare trying to get a working copy installed on my site. I’ve installed and reinstalled til I’m about to scream.
Currently the only working version is in a folder called “oldblog” which I really do not want for my address. However, all attempts to change the pointers to “blog” (yes, I renamed the folder on the site) fail.
I’ve had so many problems with this, and I have the dang thing installed about six times in various folders, with the oldblog folder being the only one that works, for some reason. And they’re all copies of the same thing!
I just want to get this thing online with a reasonable address. Is there anywhere else I should make this change? The http:… in the address field of my browser (IE6) is a good address, except that the address still has the old (oldblog) filename rather than the updated version. I have CuteFTP running so I can quickly check that the path is correct. When I change the address in the browser to match the new name, that doesn’t work either.
Sorry to ramble. I’ve tried so many different things to try to fix this whole thing that my brain has turned to mush. Z

  • Have you tried changing the URI through your SQL database? It’s located in wp_options. It worked for me. ??

Weeeellll…if I knew where to find it, I might be able to do that. I know my SQL db is on the server, but I have no idea how to access it directly. ;+)

Well, I did manage to find it. I made the change and it worked. Only now my styles are gone. I can’t figure out how that could have happened, unless there’s somewhere that specifies a path for that css file and it’s now wrong. Man, this is a drag.

Thanks for getting me this far, azel.

Can anybody tell me exactly how this was done? Nobody ever finishes their threads here, making them just about useless for people who come through later.

Please, any kind of help would be useful. I’m having the same issue. I change the URI of the blog, and nothing happens.

Well I tried the instructions there, and things just broke. The site wouldn’t show up where I told it to, and it would show up at the old location, but with no styles, and links didn’t work because it couldn’t find index.php. I changed it back and things still work at the old location, so I know I didn’t do anything wrong.
