can;t change text color

I am testing out blocksy theme have imported a starter site using elementor.
First issue, I cannot change the text color in the text blocks.
In the elementor text editor -> style tab
I have set the text color to white, but it has no effect.
So I assume it is still using the theme default text color rather than the color I am setting here.The only way I can change it is to use the toolbar text color, which changes it to white text on a white background in the editor, so it’s unreadable in the editor. I’d rather not do it this way.
