I am trying to change a sidebar but it won’t save the change. It lets me use the dropdown to select a custom sidebar — it can see all my sidbars — but after I hit update it hasn’t saved the cnage. It just shows the original custom sidebar I had set for the page. So there is no way to remove a custom sidebar because it won’t save the change.

I am running the latest version of the plugin. I cleared all caches. I also changed to 2014 with no difference.

    Please help.

  • Hi @mesmonde1111,

Thanks for posting on the forum.

I have tested it on my test site and i could set/change the custom sidebar for the pages in the Sidebars metabox section without any issue.

This can also be due to plugin conflict.

To find find out plugin conflict you can just try on your development site using default WordPress theme like Twenty Thirteen and deactivating all other plugins as displayed in the following flowchart to know which theme/plugin is conflicting if any.

Can you please try enabling WP_DEBUG mode? To do this, just go to wp-config.php include this:

    define('WP_DEBUG',true);

You might already have a line for WP_DEBUG, so just make sure it’s set to true.

For information on this, checkout this wpmu.org article.

Let me know what errors if any you are getting when you try to update it.

    Kind Regards,

OK I will give it a shot although debugging is over my head.

FYI I am getting 502 errors on my site when trying to save a menu change, and WP Engine said error logs show that the problem is related to the Custom Sidebar plugin.

    Thanks.

Your article says not to use debug on a live site but I can’t reproduce the error on the development site.

The 502 error appears to be a conflict with a plugin called Menu Management Enhancer, which is unfortunate because that is a big time-saving plugin.

However, I deactivated ALL plugins and switched to 2014 and it still will not save it when I change which sidebar is called.

OK, reporting back for anyone who might have this rather specific problem. Turns out that turning off a plugin called Admin Columns Pro solves my 502 problem and the custom sidebar saving problem. Off to that tech support forum.

    Hi @mesmonde1111,

Awesome, great to see you got the problem solved and thanks for sharing the solution here.

I hope the solution you have shared will help others facing the similar issue.

Please advise if you have more questions.

    Have a fantastic day!

    Cheers,
