• I am using “Nice Page” page builder and added a page to my one page site https://www.keithrea.com. I saved the page and made it private. Next, I forgot that I had created that page and went on to create a new page also called /whoiam. When I noticed the problem, I deleted the private “whoiam” page permanently, then went to the new “whoiam” page and tried to change the page slug to just /whoiam. When I hit the change button, it gave me the slug /whoiam-2 instead of /whoiam.

I need for this page to be pointed to the slug /whoiam as I have already done marketing with links to that specific page.

How can I change this slug to read keithrea.com/whoiam ?

Thanks in advance for your immediate help with this.

Usually when WordPress appends the “-2” to a slug, that means you still have the old content by the same name, probably in the trash, draft, etc. If so, try emptying it.

I have deleted everything… and am still having the same issue. I think I’m just going to delete the entire wordpress installation and re install from scratch. I can’t update wordpress to the new version either. So obviously something’s wrong somewhere.

    Hi @arencreative,

    You can try these steps:

    1. Go to your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Go to All Pages. See image: https://prnt.sc/8Pog7DSON0_y.
    3. Search your page and hover your mouse over it.
    4. You will see the additional options.
    5. Click on the Quick Edit option. See image: https://prnt.sc/fXSO26VTRi8Y.
    6. Next, remove the “-2” on the slug field and just make it “whoiam”. See image: https://prnt.sc/F-RUzxA-4nKQ.
    7. Click Update to save your changes.
    8. View the page on the front end and check your slug. It should work correctly.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks

Try clearing ALL caches (browser, server, plugins…).

    hello,.

You did not reinstall wordpress. I got your problem which you facing. What happened is when you delete page it’s still in trash so first you need to clear trash. Check this link to trash. https://www.wpbeginner.com/glossary/trash/

once it’s done go edit https://www.keithrea.com/whoiam-2 this page and change slug by follow https://wordpress.com/support/permalinks-and-slugs/

this url guide you to change that page slug. You can simply change slug whoiam-2 to whoiam and click on update page button.

also check your permalink structure from dashboard -> setting -> permalink which always have post-name selected.

Hope you find your solution. Thank you
