Can't change menu items

  • Deactivated all plug ins and switched to default theme – no change.
    Update post title and menu text changes which is undesirable. Used to be able to manage menu text independently of post titles.
    Seems to be a 4.5.2 problem.

    Azera shop from repo, but same issue with twentysixteen.
    Editing current pages/posts.

    Try a new post/page and menu item. Try a custom link to an old post and then change the post title.

    Same issue with new post/page. Can’t save a custom link to test that. Changing post title does update the menu text – but can’t save anything from the menu interface. No errors reported in error console..

    I recall something similar happened to me on anther site and I think it was after an auto update and reinstalling core files was the fix. I may have kept a note on it – I’ll take a look.

    A while back I did have a problem but it was with saving posts after an auto update. I reverted back to 4.1 and it fixed it. I tried that here but still having the same problem with the menu. It’s an embarrassment since I convinced this site owner to switch to WordPress based on its “stability”.

    I created a new menu and that seems to have resolved the issue. I may have been hitting a limit on the number of menu items which I was unaware of. I think there were 120 or so items in the menu.
