Can't change Home Page

I created a page for Home that I want instead of the default home page. I changed the Reading settings to Static, and chose my new page. For whatever reason, the theme refuses to show my new Home page. I’ve also tried creating a different page and pointing to that, but neither works. Is the ability to change to a different home page only doable in the Pro version???
