Can’t center widgets inside column

I have tried to set the horizontal adjustment to “center” in the column settings, but the changes I make there have no effect on the column content.

In this picture you can see the settings for the column and that the widgets is still left-aligned:

Any help much appreciated as this is rather bothersome!
