Can't Authenticate or add FB account to WordPress

Like the countless other 1 star ratings, I’m unable to to do things.

First, in the “Social Publisher” link, there is an “x” next to step 3, which is titled “Authenticate with Facebook to allow your Facebook application to post to your Timeline or Page on your behalf when a post is published”

Second, I cannot “Add a Facebook account to your WordPress account”.

When I attempt the 2nd option, it opens a pop-up window, like it is actually doing something, but then it immediately closes without any helping message at all.

The Facebook App documentation is useless, as is the documentation and support for this plugin. I’ve wasted a good 3 or 4 hours of my day trying to make this thing work, and I consider myself rather technically inclined. But I really have no interest in digging through the code of the plugin to figure what it’s supposed to be doing, and what it is not doing.
