Today’s date is January 18, 2020. I am currently running WordPress version 5.3.2. I am NOT a WordPress expert by any means. So replies should take that under consideration.

My blog was working fine yesterday. Today I am not able to post any new posts. I made no changes to my site between yesterday (Jan 17, 2020) and today (Jan 18, 2020).

When I enter the posting editor the following message is displayed right below Permalink: ?preview=true:

“You are currently editing the page that shows your latest posts.”

I am not currently editing any page.

I installed the Fix Another Update in Progress plugin and ran it. It said “There is no Update lock issue. Continue with your WordPress Update”.

I searched the wp_options database file for core_updater.lock and found nothing.

One user answered a similar question by saying the database was full. My provider, Ionos, doesn’t restrict my database size as far as I know.

I replaced all of the WordPress files with the exception of the wp-content folder.

I’ve basically tried everything I found online about this problem.

I am desperate to post to my blog again. I hope someone can help me.

  • Hi @amcgall,

Sorry for the issue you’re experiencing.

Could you try the following and give me feedback.

    1. Switch to any of the default twenty* theme and check to see if that fixes it.

    2. Deactivate all your plugins and check to see if that fixes it. If it does fix it, reactivate them one by one while checking to see if the issue returns so to find the culprit.

    3. If you’re using the Guternberg editor, install and activate the classic editor plugin and try to add new post again.

Let me know if the above suggestions work or not so we can explore other options. Cheers!

PS: chances are your theme may not be compatible with the new Guternberg editor or a plugin conflict. Try the suggestions and let me know what you find.

You can troubleshoot with the health check plugin.

It’s troubleshooting feature allows you to deactivate all your plugins and revert to the default theme without your site appearance being affected.

Here’s a link to the classic editor plugin.

You could try step 3 first, then 1 and 2.

This is very weird. Today everything is fine. I have no idea what happened. One clue may be that my provider, IONOS was doing some maintenance work on the database system. I didn’t realize this until today. This is the only thing I can attribute the sudden miraculous self healing of my site.

Thank you to all who replied.

Awesome! It’s good to know its all good. Cheers!
