I used to be able to add the HTML code to the excerpt just fine. I do this so that the podcast episode shows up on the home page without actually clicking on the post, as the tutorial video told me to do. But now that trick is no longer working and I instead get an invalid JSON response. Did something happen on your end? How come that trick is no longer working.

At the link, you’ll notice two of the posts labeled “Podiobook” are utilizing this HTML Excerpt trick. And that’s simply because I haven’t edited them. I can’t update those posts without removing the HTML from the excerpts or I’ll get the JSON response.

    Hi,

Nothing was changed in the theme in regards to that.
It should still work just fine.

Where do you get/see the “invalid JSON response” message?
Either way, the theme is not the one handling excerpts, it simply displays whatever content is there.
If something doesn’t work right during the saving process, then it’s not the theme’s fault.

I get the “invalid JSON response” message when editing the post. But I don’t seem to have the same issue when I use the mobile WordPress app. I guess it’s a coding error on WordPress’ end that for some reason affects browsers only. IDK. But I guess I’ll just use the app whenever I have to put HTML in the excerpt.

I still don’t understand where exactly you get that “invalid JSON response”. I don’t even see why JSON would be involved in this case.
Do you see this error on the frontend of your website when your posts are displayed?
Do you see this error somewhere in the back-end (in the Dashboard)?
Can you make a screenshot of it and paste the URL to the screenshot here?

This doesn’t look like a theme issue.
There are plenty of articles about solving this error, like this one for example.
