There is one possible solution/workaround, which works for now (but might not work in the future, who knows…).
- Upload your photos to Google Photos as per the new Google instructions.
- Create a new album, and copy your uploaded photos to that album
- Now go to the old Picasa URL, https://picasa.google.com/, and log in as before
- You will see your album created in Google Photos there, and from there, you can still get the link to share it with others
- Copy & paste that link, as before, to Shashin, and it should display it as before!
The reason this works is that there was a lot of public complaints to Google that Google Photos did not support a lot of useful features from Picasa, like tags and searching for tags, and so forth. So, while Google removed the ability to upload photos/videos directly to Picasa — and the amazing desktop application does not work any more — they still kept the Picasa front/back offices intact, and apparently the API to get pictures from Picasa has not changed.
Of course, this is just a temporary workaround… until Google changes its rules again ?? But it’s better than nothing. At least it still keeps Shashin working!
