Can’t add feature image on my posts

The featured image area is largely unchanged from the existing one. When you click the Add Featured Image button, it should bring up the Media Library view. In the upper left corner is the word “Upload Files” and you can upload your image on this screen to add it to the Media Library, and you can then select it as the Featured Image.

Not sure if the OP is just wanting to add the Featured Image on the right side (using Document Tab), or then putting the Featured Image into the Post itself.

Testing this out. Using the Featured Image and Upload Files.. caused it to lock-up. I had to go to the separate Media section and upload the file there which worked fine. I could then select that image as the Featured Image. I’ll make a separate thread on this (Well second time was no problem so I don’t know).

But there is no direct way to get the Featured Image on the right-side into the post itself. No button or link that I can find. Granted, can’t do this with the Classic Editor either. The only way is to add an image block and then pick it from the media library. Since some themes automatically display the featured image then this is not necessary.

The featured image is a special thing which is theme dependent. How it is used depends entirely on the theme, and not all themes use or support them.

So, if the theme declares support for it, but then doesn’t use it, welp, that’s kinda a theme complaint.

It sounds like you might be having the same issue as me, where it’s a problem with your theme using an old version of acf pro causing issues with adding a featured image in the editor – like here https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/8430 and here https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/7524
