Can't activate WordPress.com Stats

Can you quote the error?

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”

That’s the exact error. No other one. If I try once, I get that, if I try again, it activates, but then when I go to enter the key, it goes to a blank screen. Same blank screen then shows up when trying to write a new post.
