• When I try to activate Better WP Security on a website (www.transcriptione-services.com) it clocks for a long time and then gives me the following message, ‘Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.’

I actually went through and de-activated each plugin one by one and tried to activate Better WP Security to see if it was a plugin conflict, but it never would install.

Also, I can’t remove the plugin from with the WP Dashboard, I have to go into the file manager and delete it. I also tried that and re-installed, but still the same issue.

    Can someone help?

  • I had exactly the same error on one of our client sites yesterday. I couldn’t work out the problem, but after sleeping on it, I turned on display errors in PHP config and was able to see an error which gave me a massive hint.

There was an error in basedir – the error showed me a location which could not possibly be in on our server – and it was evident that this database was either from a staging database on another host, or had just migrated badly to our hosting.

The path was in wp_options table in the upload_path

I navigated to Settings | Media – and reset the upload path to the default wp-content/uploads/

Saved settings – and tried to reinstall better WP security – it worked!

Hope this helps you or someone else with your similar issues.
