Can't access wp-admin or wp-login: HTTP 500

  • These are the steps I’ve done:
    1- Unzip the package in an empty directory and uploaded everything.
    2- Opened wp-admin/install.php in my browser. -> I got the http 500 page
    3- Then I’ve opened up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor and filled in my database connection details.
    4- Saved the file as wp-config.php and uploaded it.
    5- Opened wp-admin/install.php in my browser. -> still got the http 500 page

    The website I’m trying to fix is: https://www.saskausa.com
    This site is hosted on a paid economy plan at GoDaddy that technically supports WordPress.

    What can I do? help!

    I forgot to mention – prior to the steps above, I’ve created a new database just for WordPress.

    @jessro: It is impolite to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with a question of your own. It causes significant problems for the forum’s volunteers and prevents us from being able to track issues by topic. Please post your own topic.

    @mesau5: Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

    @mesau5 Where exactly did you upload wordpress files and folders as I am getting this

    The system cannot find the path specified.

    They need to be in root.

    @esmi: Thank you.
    @govpatel: Root folder, like usual (not my first manual wordpress installation). What I’ve found is that this website’s hosting is on IIS 6 at GoDaddy and that might be a reason…this is where it’s getting slightly too technical for me, but I’ve found that upgrading the hosting to IIS 7 might solve this.     I’ve hit the button upgrade, and now well, we have to wait as GoDaddy says it takes up to 24h to change this.

    I have would recommend that you ask Go Daddy to move the account on linux server instead of window server.
