I am running wordpress on my Ubuntu box with self hosted web server.
The problem is When I put a plugin folder into wp-content/plugins folder It doesn’t work and when I extract the contents of the plugin folder into plugin folder, only then the plugin gets detected.
I think it would be a bad idea to just extract all the plugins file into one folder, So how can I get the plugin to get detected from within its own folder, like from /wp-content/plugins/advertising-manager instead of /wp-content/plugins/

Sub-Folders inside the plugins folder should be detected by default. Have you done any changes to wordpress files?
