• I’m trying to get into pingomatic to see what services is being pinged, if any. I know there should be a page where you can check/uncheck these. Unless I was dreaming I have been to this page at one point earlier. However, when I no try to go to pingomatic.com or https://www.pingomatic.com I end up at my own WordPress Error establishing a database connection window (even though the url says pingomatic and there is a little green icon there in the url field). Whats more, it’s not even the error window for the correct weblog. It says “can’t contact the database server at localhost” but my weblog is at https://memag.cookiefactory.no/

I do also have a local test weblog and I did a few posts on that before I knew about pingomatic so the local blog may have attempted to ping https://rpc.pingomatic.com/ at one point some weeks ago. Maybe that screwed up something.

I have now removed this link from the local weblog options. Have posted in both the local and real weblog since, the http-version still with the https://rpc.pingomatic.com/ link.

What I need to know is:

Why can’t I go to https://pingomatic.com? Why dows this take me to my localhost (and why does it say error for that when the local server is up and running)

What should I ping: What should I add in Input Service? At the moment I have registred with Technocrati and that’s it. I’m not the New York Times and I don’t need to be registred everywhere, but showing up in a few usefull directories would be cool.

I really don’t understand any of this at all. Can someone explain some of this to me? Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with your blog. It looks like pingomatic is down right now. Pingomatic is actually based on WordPress, which is why you see the WordPress database connection error. Rest assured, it is pingomatic’s error that you are seeing, not yours.

I think they’ve been experiencing load-related issues for the past week. They should be back in an hour or so. If you want them back sooner, please feel free to donate some money so they can afford to buy a better server.

That is not *your* error, but is occuring on the Pingomatic server. Apparently they’re having a bit of a problem conversing with the database right now.

is possible to do a ping directory with WP?

If you’re asking if it’s possible to ping directly with WP, then yes it is. Just enter the RCP ping URLs into the “Update Services” field under Options/Writing.

https://rpc.pingomatic.com/ is the ping URL for pingomatic, but it will not work if pingomatic is down.

Hi, I can’t figure out how to start a new topic here (I just joined), but I can’t get into Ping-O-Matic either. Plus, and my main problem, is I have not been able to access my blog at Blogthing for over a week now. All I get is a “Can’t select database” message. The URL is:

    https://wakeup.blogthing.com/

I know there was a problem, but supposedly it was to be fixed but I still have no access to my blog!

    Thanks!

no, i’m looking for a script that works as a blog directory where users may ping if they have new posts.

rednose – blogthing is not associated with wp as such. You will need to contact them directly.

Wow. Never had this many replies to a post this fast here before. And it turns out that it’s probably not a fault at all, like you say. I will check it later and hope for more success! Thank you for clearing that up!

It would be neat if there had been a plugin or something that gave a feedback of some kind saying if pinging was successful or not. As I understand it, now posts will go through leaving you thinkin that pings were successfully sent even if they weren’t?

Thank you again for helping out! I’ll come back and whine more if it turns out to be some other error in addition to the server being down. Which it probably isn’t.

I also found starting a new topic here a bit confusin now after the tagbased change thing. rednose49, you need to click on one of the (most relevant) tags at the top there first and then you can create a new post and select a main category for it.

Actually, you can start a new topic from any of the tags listed at the top of the Support Forums main page, or any of the topics listed on the bottom of the Support Forums main page.

To get around the great Ping-o-matic outage of 2005, try pinging url’s listed here:

And to keep “the great Ping-o-matic outage of 2005” from ever happening again, please feel free to donate some money so they can afford to buy a better server. They are, after all, offering a free service.

I don’t know if that was a thinly veiled shot at me but I was just trying to help, not draw a flame.

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

No, it wasn’t a shot at you. Just a general suggestion to everyone who’s concerned about pingomatic and just so happens to have few dollars lying around.

    (@macmanx)

Pingomatic is back online (for now).
