Just recently I discovered that my site had been hacked and I got sucuri.net to go in and clean it up. After they had cleaned up all the malware I went in and replaced all my missing content along with my missing widgets in the footer. I was able to recover the site to its original condition before the hack. So I decided to take some safety precautions and replaced all my passwords with more secure ones, made a back up of the site and deleted another copy of wordpress that was previously installed in another directory. The next day when I went to log in to the backend I got a 500 internal server error. The people at sucuri.net went to check and they tell me that it isn`t a malware issue. So my question, where do I go from here to recover my site?

For a 500 error, you need to talk to your webhost and have them find out what the problem is.

I did and all they told me was they don`t offer support for wordpress.

Can you access your site’s error logs?

Yeah I can and this was the last entry from around the time I`began to experience the problem.

A 500 error isn’t a part of WordPress, it’s an error from the server itself.

Also, sucuri-version-check.php isn’t part of WordPress either, so whatever else you have installed there could be causing the problem.

I tried renaming the sucuri plugin to see if I can disable it but it had no effect. It was recommended to me by the people at sucuri.net to install the plugin to help protect my site. This is the actual error message I get when I try to access the site.

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What error are you seeing in the log now that you’ve renamed the sucuri plugin folder or file?

This is what I get now.

OK, after I renamed the wp-e-commerce_patched plugin, my issue apparently resolved itself.I am now able to see the front and login to the backend. Thanks esmi, I did not think to recheck the error log file after the renaming.

Disregard my last post. I don’t want to take credit for something I didn’t do. Apparently around the same time as I was playing around with renaming the plugins, my host provider discovered and fixed an issue on their end and that`s why my site came back. The e-commerce plugin nor wordpress was the issue. Everything is working fine. Thanks for everybody’s input.
