Can't access dashboard of child website

Hello,
I have been promoted to admin status on a word press site, which allows one to create blogs. So I created a blog, but I don’t have access rights to the dash board. Why is that? Is there a higher level of administration, than admin? Like I will go to the parent website dashboard and click on My Sites. I will see a box with the name of my child site and the option for dashboard or visit. I can visit it but when I click on dashboard a box comes up that says “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
