I upgraded to WP 3.4.1, and now I get the following message when I try to login:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Custom_Image_Header in /home/content/l/a/r/larrykahn22/html/wp-admin/custom-header.php on line 16

When I delete my theme via FTP the problem goes away, and when I reinstall the theme (from a fresh download off the theme’s site), the problem reappears. The theme (back my book) is still operative when you visit my site, https://www.larrykahn.com. Any ideas for a fix that can help me keep my much-loved theme?

  • Everyone,

I managed to fix this issue and I am not the most computer savvy of people. Here’s what I did:

    – Downloaded WordPress 3.4.1 and extracted the files to my desktop.

    – Accessed my FTP file manager (which, for me, is provided by GoDaddy.com).

    – With the FTP file manager I selected all of the 3.4.1 files EXCEPT FOR THE “wp-content” FILE. When you go to upload, remember to DESELECT that folder, or you will overwrite all of the content you’ve created on your site and all will be lost.

    – Uploaded/overwrote the files (for me, there were 17 files).

    – Check and see if you can access the wp-admin Dashboard (I could not).

    – Next, in the FTP file manager, I opened up the “wp-admin” and “wp-includes” folders individually. I uploaded/overwrote ALL of the files in these folders with the freshly downloaded 3.4.1 ones on my desktop. I did this for both of the folders.

    – After doing this, I was able to access the Dashboard. But before I could, there was a page that said something about having to update the database. With no other options, I clicked the update button and waited. Viola! I now have full access to my dashboard.

I hope this works for you guys. If you find that it does, please get on at least one forum and re-post what you did to solve it in easy-to-follow instructions. There are A LOT of people who are freaking out over this issue.

You should contact the developers. The latest version of Back My Book was Version 1.5.3 Released: 03/22/2011 and that seems a little old as far as WP goes.

You also have a lot of errors, https://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3a%2f%2flarrykahn.com%2f

Thanks for the information, grayscale. The site that I had trouble with is in Sale Letter theme. My blog uses Titan. Any idea if Titan is affected? Also, does anyone know if WP developers will release a corrected version?

Thanks for the advice, guys. I followed grayscale’s process and my theme still wouldn’t let me access the dashboard. I finally just deleted it and found a new one that meets my needs. It was a pain, but I’m satisfied with the results. I think the developer just stopped supporting the theme.
