• I upgraded to 4.8 last night, with no issues, then this morning when I came to my site, I couldn’t access the dashboard in Chrome. The site itself works fine, but the dashboard gives the error

    This site can’t be reached

The web page might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

I can in Microsoft Edge, so I went in and disabled WP-fastest cache, thinking that might be the problem, but then I couldn’t access the site at all! So I turned it back on. I’m lost as to where to even start diagnosing this problem.

  • Should I start a new topic? I found this discussion through a search. I was hoping to find out how other people fixed the same problem but it doesn’t look like it will be so easy.

Just got an email from iThemes…

The 4.0.0 release has the fix for the cookie/500 error issue. Was related to “Hide the Backend” feature.

I assume 4.0.0 is the Pro version? I’m running the free version (6.2.1) which hasn’t been updated by iThemes in 3 months. I’m just wondering if they will push the update for the free version and how soon that will happen.

Well, the problem disappeared for a while, and now it’s back. Can’t access my site at all through google chrome. (Still can through Microsoft Edge, phew.) Cleared all cookies, still can’t access it. ??

I have the free version of ithemes security too, and haven’t had any updates. Sad that they have only updated the paid version. I really don’t want to disable it, as that leaves my site open to hackers.

I’m not sure where to go from here.

I was only using the free version of iThemes Security for the Hide Backend feature. I use the paid version of Wordfence as the main security for my sites. Since iThemes is being too slow about updating the free version which obviously has the issue, I installed the WPS Hide Login plugin instead and uninstalled iThemes Security. I also see others posting about the issue in the iThemes Security support forum but so far, iThemes is being quiet about responding to the issue for users of the free version.
