Can’t access blog from new domain name

Here is my problem. I want my blog to be accessed via https://www.example.com
In the general options section of the wordpress admin panel, I correctly have the “wordpress address url” working.
My problem lies within the “blog address url.” I assumed that all I would have to do is tell that to point to https://www.example.com. Instead, all I can do is go to my blog via https://www.example.com, but I can only navigate through https://www.mywebhost.com/wordpress_folder
Of course, my goal is to have my site navigated through https://www.example.com/pages/blah-blog-post
