Yesterday we could not access the administration (wp-admin) sign on page (wp-login.php). Instead the hosting domain “Sign in” pop-up window for a protected directory displayed. Canceling it resulted in a blank page with the following message “Due to botnet brute force login attack, use the following credentials to access wordpress, Username: wordpress, Password: wordpress.
Press reload in your browser to try again.”

Today the administration sign on page displayed OK but when I attempted to change password, the issue returned.

The site’s WordPress, version 4.9.8, contents continues to function normally.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Thanks.
How to install a plugin if you are blocked from the admin pages?
Is the error message a response from wordpress or from malware?

I was able to login to the admin panel and add “botnet brute force login attack” plugins. Each brought a different set of issues. While they may stop future attacks the problem remained. What generates the original message “Due to botnet brute force login attack, use the following credentials to access wordpress, Username: wordpress, Password: wordpress. Press reload in your browser to try again.”? Is it a basic WordPress function? Or?
