Can't access admin area if edit_posts isn't checked off

I have a role with very few permissions. I don’t want the role to be able to edit posts, however, when I unchceck edit_posts, they are no longer able to access /wp-admin at all. Instead they are redirected to /my-account.
Any advice? Thanks!
