  • I’m facing the same problem, I don’t want my canonical url to be short url.

Even worse now I can’t disable shortn.it because Google indexed the short url. Disabling the plugin breaks everything, even Facebook open graph.

    Hi all,

I have added an option in the Shortn. It settings to optionally hook into the WP SEO by Yoast canonical links.

Please update to 1.7.4 to take advantage of this feature.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I have a similar issue where someone installed the Shortn.it plugin and it changed the canonical URL’s to the shortened URL’s.

Google has indexed all the shortened URL’s which isn’t ideal. I want to correct this. Is there a way of making the redirect use a 301 instead of a 302?

Unless you think we should use a different method to fixing it.

    Thanks

    Hi jdizzle85,

I think a 301 would solve one problem but create another. I would think whenever Google reindexes the site, the URLs should update. There is a way to request a crawl and speed up the process.

    Hope that helps,

    Thanks docofmedia,

What is the other problem that it would create?

I’ve currently disabled the ‘Use Shortn. It URL as canonical URL’ feature which has fixed the canonical tag to display the orginal URL. (Still not sure why you would ever want to index the shortened version)

I’ve requested re-crawls via submitting sitemap and fetch as Google.

What I’m finding is that when Google fetches the shortened URL, Google bot gets redirected using a 302 straight away and would not know to re-index the correct page.

Is there a way to make the plugin use a 301 redirect?

I suppose I can add the option in a future release.
