The following error appears when using your plugin:

A canonical URL is required by search engines to handle duplicate content.

We found 2 canonical URL in your source code.

You must fix this. Canonical URL duplication is bad for SEO.

How do I fix this error? We’ve been using your plugin for months and have never experienced this issue until yesterday.

    Hi,

since version 4.3 of SEOPress, we have added a new verification to the content analysis feature.

If you have 2 canonical URL tags, it’s probably another plugin or your theme outputting in your source code.

SEOPress takes care of the canonical tag.

As we strongly encourage you to keep our canonical tag to avoid any side effects, you can disable it using this hook:

Hi there, and thank you for your quick response.

I still don’t understand the error message, or how to fix it and it shows on each of our pages in the exact same way. It shows 2 identical URLs, and lists them as canonical URL and as critical errors. Here is the exact output of the SEO plugin:

    Canonical URL
A canonical URL is required by search engines to handle duplicate content.

We found 2 canonical URL in your source code. Below, the list:

    https://tdbnow.com/business-profitability-training/

You must fix this. Canonical URL duplication is bad for SEO.

    So our questions are:

Why is it listing identical URLs (we use Astra as our theme)?
How is this a problem for SEO seeing as the URLs are identical?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I invite you to check your header.php of your child theme to make sure there isn’t any canonical tag.

Disable all plugins except SEOPress and reactivate one by one to find the culprit.

Clear the cache if you have one each time.

You must have only 1 canonical tag even if they are identical because in some cases, they could be different and generate errors in Google Search Console.

You can learn more about canonical tags here:

I disabled SEOPress and tried some other SEO plugins and those did not duplicate the problem. Sorry that SEOPress is doing this now as it was a favorable plugin for a long time.

You can download the theme for free here:

This is the one we’re using.

Astra works without any known issue with SEOPress.

Do you have a child theme?

Can you disable all your plugins except SEOPress and reactivate them one by one to find the culprit please?

Thank you. We discovered the conflicting plugin to be AWP Classifieds Plugin.

Thank you for your good instructions on finding the culprit!
