Canonical Issues

So I have issues with canonicals, hreflang not having return canonicals. I think Rankmath maybe is an issue GTtranslate.
So for example
https://smartmeasurement.com/liquid-flow-meters/
Plugin creates ie.
href=”https://smartmeasurement.com/fr/liquid-flow-meters/”
However the canonical is now “https://smartmeasurement.com/fr/d%C3%A9bitm%C3%A8tres-de-liquide/
The alts stay. I think this is causing a lot of weird pages etc and redirect issues.
Not sure how where how the url goes from liquid to liquide etc. times this by all the countries and it’s a lot.
