Canonical for homepage problem
-
An ahrefs crawl revealed a “Non-canonical page in sitemap” problem. My website is on WordPress. While my website is https://gatehealing.com/ when I built it in WordPress, it assigned the homepage as URL as https://gatehealing.com/counseling-in-austin-and-west-lake-hills/ (the /counseling-in-austin…. part is just the title of that page. However, this redirects to https:gatehealing.com/ Is this a problem with SEO or is it normal?
I’m trying to nail down an issue with rankings drop. In my WordPress dashboard settings I have my WordPress address and Site address as https://gatehealing.com … and I seem to remember setting my Google preferred site as https://gatehealing.com as well . . . I just cannot find that setting now. My permalinks are set to /%postname%/
My understanding from the Google Search Console folks is that this is likely creating some serious ranking issues for my site. There has got to be an easy way to fix this. My website home page, and its canonical version, should just be https://gatehealing.com/
How do I fix this?
