cannt create categories

only via pages . i am new to wordpress i used bitnamic and i am completely confused i go to categories to create a new one and it doesnt create one.What is my mistake .I go to pages i create a page and becomes category !!!!!!!!!!!!!

A link to your local server will not work. Do you get an error when you try to create a category? WordPress stores the taxonomy under several tables look under the terms table in the database and see if your categories are there. If you look toward the bottom you should see it. If it is not there and you are getting an error please post the error. If it does create a category look on the left panel of your post. You should see a categories option. Even if it didn’t create a category the option should still be there with a category of uncategorized.
