I just installed wp 3 weeks ago, so guess I am using the new one. was working on my site yesterday, saved everything, logged out, put my old site back up, ( do this everytime I work on it.)and this morning I cannot access the site https://www.tschurtschentalerlodge.com or my tschurtschenthalerlodge.com/wp-admin login page, nothing connects. I can access the ftp site, but don’t know what to refresh or change, don’t want to lose what I have done in the theme as I have been working on it for 3 weeks, and have not had a chance to back it up yet. someone said something about plugins, ?? no idea! help!

I did change some code in the css plugin box, but I added the same code the day before in a different page with no problems.

CSS code wouldn’t likely make the site disappear. So using FTP are the files there? Have you checked with your hosting company?

yes, everything is there, someone had a similar problem, and they solved it by getting rid of the theme folder and re-uploading it, but I don’t want to lose everything I did in the theme. although it is in the database, right? can I just re-upload the theme without deleting the original .. would that just refresh it? I uploaded a new plugin folder this morning, so I have deleted it .and nothing changed. It was never activated because I couldn’t get into the site. should I just hit the refresh button on the remote side of the ftp program? sorry, feeling very stupid! ??

What theme? The best way to troubleshoot is to change the name on the plugins folder to “pluginsOLD” and also change the name on the active theme so that WP will use the default theme. Don’t upload any new themes until you’ve done the above.

I get a “server not found” message when trying your URL – is that the correct URL for sure? – and that’s more likely a hosting/server issue than just WP. But go ahead and see what the above does.

I don’t think it is a server thing, I can log into my hoster – ready hosting and use the control panel no prob.
So, after I change the names, if it works, then do I change them back? does that reset it?

Yes, you can change them back, though if it’s a plugin that crashed the site, it may happen again. But no way to tell without trying it.

I renamed them and still nothing. not sure , do I need to reset the plugins? or do I have to start again with new ones? Thanks for your patience

So is the (ONLY) plugins folder named something else? And is the theme you had active deleted or renamed?

    (@sallyee)

I re-named the plugins folder ( the one in the wp-contents folder) pluginsOLD, and the theme folder I re-named Yellow. The host ran some kind of tool, but that did not help either. Am at a loss.

So you have checked with the host today?

What do you see when you go to the URL?

    I get this:

Firefox can’t find the server at https://www.tschurtschentalerlodge.com

    Chrome won’t load anything either.

Thanks everyone, the host people were finally able to do something. have no idea what, but I’m back up. Thanks too for the domain name link, asked tham about that too! ??
