My wordpress blog will not allow me to edit or write posts. Everytime I go to the edit post page I am defaulted to the HTML tab (even though the visual tab is highlighted). I try to click on visual to change things up and that doesn’t work. All text in the HTML box is white and can only be seen if highlighted. I also can’t add tags or change the categories section to “most used” and when I click the “add photo” button it replaces the page with the upload screen rather than giving me the usual pop up window.

This issue popped up on my Macbook Pro with google chrome, firefox and safari. This is also an issue on my school computers that have XP and Internet Explorer.

The only computer I have been able to work with is my Windows 7 computer using Firefox.

Anyone have some way to fix this issue. It’s an issue not being able to post, haha.

Here is a picture of what I see when I try to edit the post:

Notice the white columns on the side and the top of the page (arrows pointing to it). I’ve never seen that before I had this issue. Does that have something to do with this.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Yes. This appears to be an issue unrelated to my theme or plug-ins.

Then it must be your computer(s) and/or your local network.

I just don’t see how that’s possible given the fact that I’ve tried a Mac, Windows 7 and XP. One at my home and one at my school, which is not on the same network as my home computer.

Well, if it’s not WordPress, what else would you suggest? FWIW, it is common for school networks to run fairly strict filters which may strip out javascript – thus rendering the admin area unusable. So that leaves one machine where it does work and one where it doesn’t. My money is still on this being an issue outside of WordPress.

I know that schools often have strict systems but I could make posts on all three computers before 5 PM yesterday.

Then perhaps something on the server changed?

I didn’t make any specific changes. What could it be?

Perhaps your hosts changed something? have you tried re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

How do I do that without losing my posts and pictures?

Uploading those folders will not affect your posts (which are stored in your database) or your images (which are usually stored in the wp-content/uploads folder).

    That did not work either.

Try checking the user permissions on your WordPress database.

    How do I do that?

Using Phpmyadmin or whatever database management tool your hosts provide. If you’re not sure what to use, ask your hosts for help.
