Cannot upload theme

    I have setup WP OK and it runs OK, but when I try to upload more than one theme, it just says “Unpacking the package…” and does nothin else.
    Looking in the uploads directy using FTP I see that the ZIP file is there.
    Also When I try to upload any media it does the same thing.

    Any ideas?

  • Mike, there could be a few things at work here.

    The easy answer is to FTP the unzipped theme files to your directory and they will work for you. The more complex answer would be to determine why the unzip function isn’t working on your server. It could be that they don’t have it installed, or that WP is running out of memory while executing or about a million other factors from permission settings of the themes directory to anything else.

    Thanks for that Chris. If I upload with FTP then yes it works, but the problem still exists for other themes. I Also notice that when I try to upload a picture to Media it gets to the crunching stage and stops with a red HTTP error message. Could this explain anything?

    Sounds like a mod_security issue. ask your hosts about it.

    There are two uploaders. One is flash based, one is file based. Try whichever one you’re NOT using.

    I only get one uploader when uploading a theme. I see two uploaders if I want to upload an image so that is easily fixed I guess, but its the theme uploading thats the pain, never had this issue on my server before.

    Hi All.

    Thanks for the excellent help.
    I have now added the following .htaccess file to each server (root) and all is working well.

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

    It seems there was a server issue parsing PHP5.
