Cannot upload new plugins

Perhaps this is because I recently upgraded to the newest WP version, but I cannot download any new plugins no matter which way I try — I get a “fatal error” before it finishes “unpacking.” I am trying to get the Podcasting and Global-translator ones, but I tried others as well with nothing different.
