Cannot update WordPress or themes because my FTP information does not work

  • The FTP information is not working when I try to update WordPress or Themes. I have checked the wp-config.php file and it is correct. I have looked in forum for the answer but haven’t found any that I understand. Is there a simple solution for this?

  • FTP settings are not the same as in the wp-config file. Signing into your hosted account should provide correct ftp information.

    Are you in the dashboard and wp is asking for ftp credentials?

    I am using the information I use when using my FTP program to upload files to my web site.
    Yes, trying to upload from WP dashboard and asks for password but it’s not working.

    The password is the one you use to sign into your hosted account not necessarily the one you use to sign into WordPress or your database.

    I still get this message:
    Failed to connect to FTP Server https://ftp.yoursite.com:21

    To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

    Should I just install updates manually, or will I have the same problem?
