I am trying to upgrade WordPress 2.7.1 to 2.8 but every time I click “Proceed”, it loads for a minute and then downloads a file called “Update.php” and opens it in Notepad. Nothing is inside of the file.

This happens when I attempt to update plug-ins as well. Please help me out.

    Thanks,
    Stephen Hobson

  • You may have to do the manual upgrade thing for both WordPress and for plugins.

See Upgrading WordPress and to upgrade Plugins, just download the zip file to your local machine, extract the contents, then use FTP to upload that plugin folder to wp-content/plugins on your host.

Either manual install.. or use Firefox. IE is your culprit I’m betting.

I can upgrade plug-ins manually but when I try to upgrade WordPress manually, all it does is give me a giant PHP error.
